39 | For The One Learning To Practice Self-Love

It’s still so weird to me that we are learning, or rather re-learning to practice self-love. It’s not a skill we learn in life it's something we are born doing, yet somewhere along the way some of us have veered off track. We’ve believed the negative things people have said about us. We’ve been hard on ourselves, and we’ve criticized ourselves for not being perfect 100% of the time. If this is you, and you veered off track for awhile but are coming around, this is your friendly reminder to simply love. Love yourself regardless of your past. Regardless of the mistakes you’ve made. Regardless if you’re different than everyone else.

You can want to make a positive shift in your life while loving yourself even if you aren't where you want to be or thought you’d be by now. Change is a lot easier to make with love at the root rather than criticism, and if you can’t love yourself at least be gentle.. At least be willing to. And if you aren't willing to just yet, at least be curious how your life might improve by showing yourself the love you deserve.

I know it’s easy to just say “love yourself, ”and if you find it difficult… grab a piece of paper and write out 10 things you love about yourself; maybe its your laugh, your smile, your generosity. Then, set a timer twice a day on your phone and when it goes off check-in with your thoughts. Are they kind and helpful? If not, reword them and show yourself compassion just like you would a friend. I also suggest having a self-care routine dedicated just to you - use that time to embrace your uniqueness, to celebrate who you are and even your achievements. Take time to learn about yourself and create a little more self-awareness.
